Hello. My name is Mark Hackett. I live in my hometown of Memphis, TN. My wife and I are raising two kids and three cats.

My day job is at Operation Broken Silence, a small organization I founded that is helping Sudanese heroes strengthen their communities in the face of war and oppression. I enjoy reading church history and theology books, a good conversation over craft beer, exercise, making pizza, and photography.

Here, I write and host conversations about faith and American church culture. Like many sincere Christians, I’m no longer sure where I belong in the American church world. The questions I ask are an expression of my faith, not a problem. I know quick answers that give the illusion of safety don’t make difficult things go away.

Writing and talking with experts here is helping me figure some things out. I hope it helps you, too.

About The Website

markhackett.com is where I write and have conversations about faith and American church culture. I designed and manage the site myself.

The church steeple on the homepage is one I took of St. Philip's Church in Charleston, SC. The congregation was established in 1681, making it the oldest church in the city and one of the oldest in the United States. Many prominent people are buried there, including colonial governors, bishops, and a Vice President. A fitting photo, to be sure.
